Sure, if an Oppo needs a job, travel advisor is as good as any. I wish I’d known certain things before I’d gone earlier this year that the guide books and wikitravel either gloss over or fail to mention entirely.

On a serious note: do you ride? Transiting between trail heads by bicycle instead of car looked like a lot of fun. There are outfits to kit you up on tourers so you don’t need to transport your bike. I spent a ton of time hiking and met a lot of the same cyclists at some of the popular spots. Also: don’t screw around with the weather. The only other time I’ve been scared on a mountain was a winter ascent of Carter Dome many years ago. You need to be seriously prepared to do anything beyond local day hikes. The weather turns on a dime.
